Day 7 A Person of Infinite Worth, never a Project

(my computer is at the computer doctor still. I have the joy of linking with the lovely Jen @ www.findingheaventoday.com)

I’m a sucker for quick witty dialogue (I miss you West Wing!) and indie music so when Grey’s Anatomy first started, I built my schedule around their drama.  (I know.  I see character drama, Andrew sees layers of Dante’s Inferno’s) The only thing I gained besides this beautiful love song from God to us by Kendall Payne?

This exchange between Christina and Meredith:

We are being called to not find projects, but to be their “person.” Walking out of the sheep pen to search for lost sheep means to see beyond the flat character and dig to find Real, to see the infinite worth behind the plastic mask.  To search.  To love. To be their “person.”

No quote calls me to set down the cliches and put on new eyes to see worth like this by CS Lewis:

“It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which,if you say it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree helping each other to one or the other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all of our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. nations, cultures, arts, civilizations – These are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit – immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.”
The Weight of Glory

If each individual is filled with the image of God, coming into relationship with them at any part of their journey is straight up privilege.  God doesn’t give up on us.  He pursues that precious lost sheep who has wriggled free of her pen until He finds her and brings her home safe, whispering her name.  He is the Father who on tippy toes watches the dust in the road, wondering “Is it him?  Could it be my son?”

The question is, who is God calling you to make small faithful steps towards, to pray for, to invite into your life, into your home?

Here’s a printable I find helpful to help me think through reaching out to my “person.” Click the link below to print:

  1. I like the thought that there is no one ordinary. It makes met think, as God’s creation, I should have known this is true.

Some thoughts I’ll ponder here. Visiting from Jen’s.
